Customs Declaration System

Don't forget to migrate across

Glen Saunderson | Head of Customs Solutions

Don't forget that HMRC are upgrading their Custom Declaration platform, replacing the Customs Handling of Import and Export Freight (CHIEF) system with Customs Declaration System (CDS).

The last date for Import Declarations through CHIEF will be September 30th, 2022.

The Unsworth team are underway supporting our customer's migration across to the CDS system by hosting workshops and webinars for our customer base, making sure you are prepped and ready to go before the deadline.

If this demo is of interest, please reach out to your Account Manager or the Custom Solutions Team to book a demo.

Don't forget to read the full list of requirements here to make sure you have fulfilled the requirements by HMRC.

Ocean Import Update

Market updates for Sea freight

Martin Carter | Head of Operations

Market Updates:

The port congestion in Europe is still a major issue that delays schedules, with more blank sailings announced by all carriers and alliances.

  • Hamburg is particularly bad at present with delays in getting containers on and off the quay, with additional charges being incurred due to demurrage and detention.
  • Rate-wise, we have seen reductions again from Asia Trade lanes for July / August. However, BAF for Q3 increased by approx. 25 - 30 % compared to Q2.
  • There is a strong demand and preference for direct services to avoid potential delays at transhipment ports due to congestion in Southeast Asia.
  • Flexibility is the game's name; however often comes at the expense of regularity. This is also clearly reflected in the Ocean Schedule.
  • Port activity UK land-side is working without issues, haulage has become more available mostly due to the downtrend in volumes arriving into the UK, the test will be as we enter Q4 to see if the traditional spike/peak happens.
  • Carriers will start announcing emergency fuel surcharges or increase the frequency of reviewing bunker mechanisms as fuel prices continue to grow.

Latest Pathway Release

Easier Booking, Deliveries, and More

James Coombs | Head of Business Change & Innovation

Just this week, we released our latest update for Pathway.

You have a whole new menu! Under account settings, you can now manage your own team, add or remove members and send password reset emails for anyone on your team.

As part of this release, we have upgraded the deliveries dashboard. This will let you see all deliveries and confirm or rebook a delivery easily right from the calendar (even for deliveries booked outside of Pathway).

We’ve also built a whole system of real-time configurable notification emails. Go ahead and customise your notification preferences as desired.

With this release, we think we've reached our MLP (minimum lovable product in my circles). It's the point that an app starts to seamlessly integrate itself into your day-to-day routine.

For many of you, this has already happened with Pathway and we couldn't be happier.  If you’ve not had a chance to try out Pathway yet, sign up with the button below and start managing your freight online. It’s quick and easy, and it’s our way of being the best logistics partner possible.

Would you like to know more? You can set up a call with me and my development team here.

Message from the MD

Market Update

Richard Hogg | Managing Director

Dear Valued Customers,

As I write this message, following final stage talks between management and Unite union on Monday, 8th August, the 8 days of strikes at the port of Felixstowe have been confirmed as talks ended with neither party reaching an agreement on an improved pay offer and the union rejecting offers for continued talks at this stage.

As always, here at Unsworth, we will do our utmost to help our customers mitigate the impact of any potential delays and potential additional costs.

This summer has been a great opportunity for growth at Unsworth, we have welcomed three new staff members:

  • Ben Smith as our Internal Sales Coordinator
  • Jessica Tomlinson into the Customs Solutions Team
  • Matt Jones as Overseas Network Manager

Alongside two internal promotions:

  • Michael Kelly as Customs Solutions Supervisor for General Accounts, Imports and Exports
  • Robert Kelly as Customs Solutions Supervisor for Key Accounts, Imports and Exports

We pride ourselves on staff development and building success by putting our staff first, allowing us to give the best customer service and experience. Something we are recognised by BIFA, as the 2021 winners of the Staff Development Award.

If you want to learn more about Unsworth or require any assistance, please do not hesitate to get in contact at rh@unsworth.uk.

Best Wishes,

Richard Hogg
